This classic rye whiskey cocktail recipe gets a touch of fruity flavor from a float of red wine on top of the drink. Shaking the egg white and other drink ingredients without ice—known as a "dry shake"—helps get the whites foamy without diluting the drink.

Ingredients

1 large egg white
4 oz. rye whiskey
1½ oz. fresh lemon juice
1 oz. simple syrup
1 oz. full-bodied red wine

Preparation

  1. Shake egg white, whiskey, lemon juice, and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker until frothy, about 1 minute. Fill shaker with ice and shake until outside is frosty, about 30 seconds. Strain into 2 coupe glasses. Gently pour ½ ounce wine over the back of a spoon held just above each drink's surface so wine floats on top.
